Download Claude Desktop for Cowork

Anthropic publishes Desktop builds for macOS and Windows, with additional surfaces (including mobile apps and other Desktop variants) listed on the same page. Always prefer the official page over third-party mirrors.

  • Mobile: iOS and Android apps pair with Desktop for Dispatch-style handoff when you need an awake computer.

Plan requirement for Cowork

Claude apps may be available across plan types for chat, but Cowork requires a paid plan with access enabled (Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise per Claude Help). Confirm eligibility and pricing on our pricing hub and official Claude pricing—not on this download page.

Getting the real app, safely

  • Download only from the official page linked above. Search results and “free download” sites are a common source of bundled installers you did not ask for.
  • On first run, read the system prompts instead of clicking through: macOS asks you to confirm the app came from an identified developer, and Windows SmartScreen shows the publisher. The official app passes both cleanly.
  • If an installer pushes unrelated extras — browser toolbars, “optimizers”, other apps — cancel it. The official Claude installer does not do that.

What first run looks like

  1. Sign in with the Claude account that holds your plan, so Cowork access shows up correctly.
  2. Approve one folder for your first task — ideally a copy of a real project, not your only copy.
  3. Run one small task end to end before delegating anything bigger. The Getting Started guide below is built for exactly this.
